2026 Illinois Agrichemical Container Recycling Program

The Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) has announced the 2026 Agrichemical Container Recycling Program, providing Illinois farmers and agrichemical facilities with a free and environmentally responsible way to dispose of eligible pesticide containers. The program, which begins in mid-July and continues through August, helps keep used agrichemical plastics out of landfills by recycling them into products such as shipping pallets.

Program Overview

The recycling program accepts clean and dry high-density polyethylene (HDPE) #2 plastic agrichemical containers. Metal containers and household pesticide containers are not eligible. Participants are required to properly rinse and prepare containers before bringing them to a collection location.

Container Preparation Requirements

To ensure containers can be safely recycled, participants should follow these preparation steps:
  • Completely empty all pesticide containers.
  • Triple-rinse or pressure-rinse containers immediately after use.
  • Remove caps, foil seals, labels, valves, fittings, and all metal components.
  • Puncture containers to render them unusable.
  • Keep containers dry and free from liquid residue.
  • Plastic drums must have tops and bottoms removed and be cut down the side.
  • Mini-Bulk and Intermediate Bulk containers must be cut into required sections with all fittings removed.

Permanent Collection Sites

The following permanent collection sites accept eligible containers year-round. Participants are encouraged to call ahead before delivery.
  • Logan Agri Service, Inc. – Griggsville, IL – (217) 833-2375
  • Klein Flying Service – Lawrenceville, IL – (812) 890-6685
