Governor Pritzker Announces New Investment in Tuscola Nitrogen Plant

On Tuesday at the Farm Progress Show, Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) announced that the investment — from Cronus Chemicals LLC (Cronus) — will construct the new fertilizer production facility.  If built, it would create 130 new jobs.

In June, Cronus gained the approval of the necessary air permits; this was one of the final steps in making the ammonia production plant come to life. Once the plant is operational, it will make ammonia.  The new facility is expected to produce 950,000 short tons annually.  The ammonia production will also include carbon capture and storage, reducing carbon emissions.

The plant will be built along Route 36, about a mile west of Tuscola.

IFCA excited about this announcement but also knows that this project has been talked about ever since 2012. If more details are released in the coming days we will pass it along to our membership.
