Electronic Logbooks and Hours of Service

Our industry enjoys a very nice Hours of Service Exemption when we transport agricultural inputs to and from distribution points, within a 150 air mile radius.  The exemption is year-round in Illinois and the150 air miles applies within the state, or when crossing state lines.

The new rules for electronic log books do not apply when you are using the agriculture HOS exemption.  Click here for a fact sheet on the electronic logging rules and how they interact with the HOS exemption.  Bear in mind that fuel deliveries generally do not qualify for the agricultural Hours of Service exemption especially when the delivery truck stops at both farms and residences, or delivers to other commercial businesses.  If you have questions please call IFCA.
