Pesticide Misuse Update

IFCA welcomes Jack Eck to his new role at the Illinois Department of Agriculture as the Environmental Bureau Section Manager.  Jack is responsible for overseeing pesticide misuse complaints and investigations as well as helping the industry with compliance.  Jack is taking over for Scott Frank, who retired last year.  Scott is also continuing to assist at the Department during this transition, so we are very fortunate to have two very knowledgeable professionals working at IDA to ensure fair regulatory oversight of our industry.

As of today, there are only a handful of misuse complaints called in to IDA regarding post application of the new dicamba technology.  However, IDA has received more overall pesticide complaints than what they receive in a typical year.  They are close to 100 complaints so far, whereas an average year is around 110 complaints for the entire season.

Please keep up adherence to the pesticide labels and continue to help your customers understand this new herbicide technology whether you are custom applying or selling the products to them.  The next few weeks will tell the story on how we in Illinois managed this issue and with all the attention on what has occurred in Arkansas, some good news to share would be very welcome.  If you have any questions or concerns about pesticide misuse, please call IFCA, we can assist you.
