The Fertilizer Industry Remembers Howard Freeland

We learned yesterday of the passing of Howard R. Freeland, an icon of the Illinois Fertilizer Industry who was known, respected and loved by many in our industry.  Howard was 80 years old.

Howard worked for Standard Oil and then as the Agronomic Sales Manager for Marco Fertilizer in Clinton, IL.  He was very active in the industry and served on many committees of the IFCA; he was also an IFCA Board Member, providing leadership to the Association during a time of rapid growth in the industry.

IFCA remembers Howard as a true professional with a warm smile and someone who always had time for his customers and his counterparts.  He gave a great deal back to the industry he loved.  For our members who have been in this business for a while, many fondly reflect on the "good old days" of the fertilizer industry.  Well, Howard was the "good" in the "good old days."

Howard's obituary can be viewed here.  Visitation is Friday, May 5 from 11:30 am to 1:15 pm at the Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral home in Pontiac with the funeral following visitation.

We send our condolences to Howard's son, daughter and grandchildren, to his colleagues at Marco NPK, and to his many friends in our industry.  He will always be fondly remembered for his positive contributions to the Illinois fertilizer industry.
