Come Jan 1, is it 55 mph or 65 mph in Illinois?

Effective January 1, 2010, Illinois is adopting a uniform speed limit on Interstate Highways of 65 mph.  The means that commercial motor vehicles will be able to travel 65 mph instead of 55 mph.  BUT:  until the state gets all the speed limit signs replaced, the posted speed limit applies so be careful.  The Illinois State Police asked us to remind everyone that the posted speed limit is the law.  They are optimistic that the signs will be replaced in a reasonable amount of time.

Also, 80,000 lb highway access is also coming to Illinois on January 1, 2010.  But, the fines for overweight vehicles will DOUBLE so again, be careful out there!
